good morning, you are taking a live look at berkeley where a major fire destroyed several businesses last night. you could see firefighters still on the scene. the street is still blocked off and the investigation continues. allie rasmus will have a live report coming up. i am claudine wong. >> i am ken pritchard in for mike mibach. >> we will go to rosemary a a quick look at the weather. second half, looking at walnut creek area where we are looking at low clouds once again and more widespread than what we had yesterday. concord and was sunny yesterday. this is the coast across the bay. well inland and well to the south, into the south bay and in the east pay. all the way stretching through antioch with a delta breeze that continues to blow through the evening hours. and to the north bay where we do have fog and low clouds

reported in the areas. i am beginning to see a transition ready. number 1, fairfield has died down quite a bit. we will check in on the wind. they are is a look at the temperatures. 55 in oakland. and a lot like how we started yesterday with the low clouds overhead. temperatures not too bad and get into the afternoon. they are warmer than yesterday. and 78 for livermore and 77 in fairfield. 75 in napa. and 68 for oakland. >> still a little cool at the coast. wove the patchy fog remaining. on the up swing. i will show you why and how long this is going to last with the extended forecast coming up. in the top storiesry, firefighters are still at the massive fire that swept a complex in berkeley. this is among the businesses wiped out. allie rasmus is live for us at the scene. allie? >> reporter: they have been out

overnight and putting out hot spots. a few minutes ago, we saw the firefighters spraying the outside of the building where the fire happened. now, we are expecting the inspectors and the battalion chief to return later in the morning. this is the next hour, hour and a half. to figure out how it started. berkeley police are keeping us a block away from the warehouses. we can't give you an up close look at the damage. we can show you some of the dramatic video from last night. it started at 8:00. this is east shore highway. >> this is a six alarm fire at its worse. >> this is from the buildings. the businesses destroyed are the wooden duck and furniture tree stores and tile company had damage to the property. there are a number of design contractors who operate out of these buildings who have had their property and some of their materials destroyed as well. >> the man who owns all the

buildings where they operated. they spoke last night about the devastating loss. >> oh, my god, this is so crazy. i carnage what it is going to take to put all the businesses back together. >> it was advice able from the offshore freeway. traffic came to a crawl to watch the flames much no one was injured in the fire. they did knock out power to 1500 at one point. pg&e said there are six businesses in the east berkeley area without power and it is supposed to be restored by one in the afternoon. coming up the next mornings on two, he could be here in the next hour to hour and a half. we will talk about the challenge the firefighters face putting out the fire last night because of the fire hydrants in the area. >> allie rasmus, channel 2

news. allie mentioned the interstate. look at the cars. got to look like a parking lot. this is from the roof mounted cam and you can see the gridlock and fire there. >> train service, that was also affected and briefly halted during that firefight. new this morning. san jose firefighters had to use the jaws of life to rescue two people trapped inside a car. firefighters say it crashed into a tree on sun crest avenue shortly after 1:00 this morning. it took firefighters a full 30 minutes to rescue the two people that were trapped. they are expected to be okay. new report shows caltrans was warned that some of the wells on the new span of the bridge could crack prematurely. sections of the deck made in china did not fit precisely together when they were brought over to the u.s., they report they allowed engineers to meet lower standards and welded the

decks together. they weren't worried about kata staff fick failure but they would have to make sooner than expected repairs and that it could be damaged in an earthquake. the risks are remote and not worth the extra costs. continuing now with the bus crash. the ntsb said it can't verify that the fed. ex. truck caught fire before hitting head on into the bus. they sideswiped the nissan altima. and they have recovered the electron control module which records movements. the truck's not duly was destroyed in the fair. >> they do plan to remove the transmission. we might be able to tell the gear that the truck tractor was in. and this could give us a speed rank that occurred prior to the crash. 10 people were killed including five students from

the los angeles area to humboldt state. they remained in the hospital and two are in chico medical center in fair condition. # 3-year-old magdalena was missing for two weeks. her body was found where she was believed to be hiking before her disappearance. she was last seen on march 30th. her car was found april 4th at a campground. >> no signs of trauma. and this may in fact, be an accident. >> the body was found after they received a tip from a man who recognized her from surveillance photos. people are told to boil water before drinking it at least for the next few days. problem started friday night. water main burst on pine and wood lanes. water started gushing up from underneath the road. the water is running again but a boil advisory is still in

effect. >> it will be probably tuesday when we will notify all of our customers that the boil order is lifted. >> it is just a precaution until crews can take a sample to be analyzed. south san francisco police are looking for a two men who robbed a woman. she was walking on the centennial way trail. one of the men tried to grab her purse. when she struggled, the other hit her in the face with a handgun. they were last seen running through the parking lot. they were leaving the station and asked to be on alert. anyone with information is asked to call police. antioch jewelry store is open again for business after it left a robber dead and a customer injured. they walked into the jewelry store friday afternoon. one of them shot and wounded a customer. then one of the owners shot and killed one of the robbers.

between the federal government and nevada cattle rancher appear to be over. 300 head of cattle were lunched to rancher clive bundy, he did not stop them from grazing on federal land. the showdown came at a price. >> we had individuals being shot and trampled and on the highway. so, it took a lot of resources for the taxpayers associated with this. the bureau of land management said he owes back fees for grazing. it is still unclear in the rancher allows it to happen again. centers for disease control is investigating norovirus outbreaks on cruise ships. they happened on the same royal caribbean ship on back to back tours. this is on the princess cruise ship. 350 people were affected. crew members were doing their best to free vent the further

. hundreds of people in the bay area are now prepared for the next major disaster after the drill in san francisco. at the event, the san francisco fire department trained volunteers from the emergency response team also known as nert. >> they practiced using equipment and setting up command centers. >> we live in an area. where no one can staff for disaster levels. so, volunteers play a key role. we provide them training that makes them really ready. >> this is the either quake. and since then, volunteers have been trying to help police and firefighters during natural disasters. they came out for the glad media awards. they recognize the media for the fair and accurate

department has had a crew on the scene all night since this fire started and all throughout early morning hours. a ladder truck came out to the scene a short time ago to shoot water on to the top of this warehouse that burned last night. they'll use that ladder truck to watch pore hot spots and also to take some overhead pick tiewfers what's left of the structure. here to tell us more is the  berkeley fire chief. this was a six alarm fire. it was a massive undertaking. >> that's correct. it was a five alarm fire that came in at 7:54 p.m. last night. initial reports had fire coming from 1823 eastshore. when crews got on scene, they saw rapidly changing fire conditions as well as power lines that were dropping across fire apparatus hampering the

efforts of the firefighters. we asked for additional resources throughout the county and the firefighters made a great stop and kept the fire to the building of origin. >> the power lines was one of the chalz you faced. talk about other challenges. >> not only did we have power lines that came across our fire apparatus. we needed east bay mud to boost up the water pressure. we have a very large 30,000 square foot building that we had to work on multiple sites. we had exposures to other adjacent buildings all the way around. so there was the job of protecting the other buildings. >> no one was injured. so that's good news. what has to happen here today? >> so today we still have crews working to put out hot spots. we're still seeing small

smoldering spots that we're putting out. we're bringing in fire investigators and our building inspectors to assist with assessing the structural integrity of the building so we can get our fire investigators inside. >> is there a theft building possibly collapsing? >> well, the entire roof is gone. it's a trussed roof. the sides of the building are being held up by beams. with we need to determine whether we need to shore up the building. >> thank you very much. this is some new video that we got just about 15 minutes ago that shows the site that burned. some of the businesses that were damaged or destroyed include the wooden duck and joshua tree furniture stores. there is also a number of different contractors and designers who rent space in this warehouse. we have seen a number of people, artisans and designers, coming back to the site to check on their belongings. some of them have come back with some of their belongings intact. others have left this site very distraught because some of

cost. continuing coverage of the deadly bus crash on i-5 north of sacramento. the ntsb says it cannot verify claims that a fedex truck caught fire before hitting a car and slamming head on into the bus. a couple in the car saw flames from under the fedex truck before it sideswiped their nissan and rammed the bus. investigators have recovered the bus' electronic control module. the fedex's truck module was destroyed in the fire. >> our investigators do plan to remove the transmission. we might be able to tell the gear that the truck tractor was in and had this could give us a speed range that occurred prior to the crash. >> ten people were killed including five students heading from the los angeles area to humboldt state for a tour of the school. several students remain in the hospital. two are in chico medical center

. tensions continue to escalate in the ukraine. ukrainian security forces launched an operation today to clear pro russian separatists from a police station in the eastern part of the country. at least one person was reportedly killed. gunmen dressed in camouflage stormed and seized the building yesterday. this morning the ukraine government announced it was taking back the building in an anti-terrorist operation. it warned residents to stay indoors. a cnn crew says it does not see a large security presence. on tuesday vice president joe biden will travel to kiev. the visit is designed to you said scort obama administration's unwavering support for ukraine.
